Where:
Turnagain Elementary Multipurpose Room

What:
We are thrilled to present SCREENAGERS: Growing Up in the Digital Age, a documentary about the biggest parenting issue of our time. Through a generous grant from our Common Sense Education Pilot we were able to purchase a viewing for our school of this acclaimed movie and our PTA is sponsoring.

Are you watching kids scroll through life, with their rapid-fire thumbs and a six-second attention span? Physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston saw that happening with her own kids and began a quest to uncover how it might impact their development. In this movie she probes into the vulnerable corners of family life, including her own, to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. SCREENAGERS reveals how tech time impacts kids’ development and also offers solutions on how adults can empower their kids to best navigate the digital world to find balance.

2019 Turnagain Elementary Skat-a-thon

When:
February 22nd During and right after school

Where:
Turnagain Elementary School Ice Rink

What:
The Turnagain PTA is happy to announce our FIRST Skate-A-Thon! 100% of the money raised in the winter “Skate-A-Thon” stays right here at Turnagain. This year we have an ambitious goal of $7000.00! Our event is on February 22nd, with each class skating for one hour-skating laps around the community rink at the school. The prize assembly is scheduled for March 7th.

This fund raiser encourages our children to be involved in physical activity while raising funds for our community rink in a fun and rewarding way. Turnagain students use the rink for physical education classes and our very popular after school skate program. The rink is lit in the evenings and maintained weekly allowing for free community use from late December to breakup. The maintenance of the rink is our largest expense for the PTA.

Monies raised provides funding for PTA sponsored activities, school improvements, teacher requested supplies and equipment, field trip buses, ice maintenance, family events and more. Turnagain PTA is part of a mission to encourage children to live active, healthy lives – and this fund raiser encourages our children to be involved in physical activity, while making the activity fun and rewarding.

What:

  • Listen to a presentation by parent coach David Mack. He will review prize-winning science fair projects by focusing on what worked. He will also present on the scientific method.
  • Flip through or check out library books for ideas.
  • Do research in the computer lab.
  • Parents and kids can ask teachers and parent coaches how-to questions.
  • Pick up handouts.
  • Trifold display boards and other important supplies will be available for purchase that night.

Who:
Turnagain PTA, Mrs. Eastham, Mrs. White and Mrs. Guest have worked together to coordinate this event. Send an email to turnagainpta@gmail.com if you would like to help out as a parent coach.
